Photo Hack Day 4: Facebook HQ, Menlo Park, April 6-7. We're pleased to =
host this year's Photo Hack Day, a two-day competition for apps centered =
around photography, photo editing, and design. With over 300 million photo =
uploads every day, Facebook is the best place to share the images people =
create on these apps. We'll be on hand to help make the social integration =
easy.
HackEd 2.0: Facebook HQ, Menlo Park, April 9. We're teaming up with the =
Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation to host HackEd 2.0, an =
education-centered hackathon to build apps that facilitate learning. =
Hackers will work with education experts to create social apps that help =
high schoolers learn about and apply to colleges; facilitate out-of-school =
studies; or aid in social learning. We're looking forward to helping these =
apps and the people they serve succeed.
droidcon Berlin: Berlin, April 9-10. Facebook has one of the most =
downloaded Android apps of all time, built to work for millions of people, =
on many different devices and versions of Android. Our first session will =
cover the tools and processes Facebook uses to ship Facebook for Android, =
including testing and build tools, the developer workflow, and the =
structure of the codebase. We also recently rebuilt our Android SDK from =
the ground up. Our second talk will cover the structure of the SDK and the =
design patterns we considered, rejected or adopted. This talk will be =
useful to anyone interested in integrating Facebook into their Android =
app, or those building SDKs and libraries for others to use.
Game On: Moscow: Moscow, April 15. The Game On series comes to Moscow for =
more chances to connect with the Facebook EMEA games team and discuss =
strategies to grow your game. You'll also hear from companies like Game =
Insight, Crazy Panda and Social Quantum on their experiences building on =
the platform, and find out how games like Candy Crush, Megapolis and =
Slotomania became the top grossing apps on Facebook and mobile.
TechCrunch Disrupt: New York, April 27-28. We're excited to be sponsoring =
this year's Disrupt Hackathon in New York City. The hackathon is held =
before the main Disrupt event and brings together developers from all over =
the world to build a product in 24 hours. We'll have a workshop to help =
hackers get started with Facebook.

Since last Wednesday's update, we announced local currency payments and =
released some new version of mobile app install ads

New Games sections on timeline

Following the updates to timeline that we previously announced, =
we=E2=80=99re beginning to rollout a Games section on timeline and the =
About page. This new section will appear for people that have played one =
or more social games in the last 28 days or have previously liked a game.  =
No code changes are required by developers for their games to appear.



People can edit how this section appears, and content is displayed based =
on a person=E2=80=99s privacy settings.  For example, if a person plays =
Game of Thrones Ascent and sets the app privacy for =E2=80=9Cclose =
friends,=E2=80=9D only those people will be able to see that game listed =
in the Games section.

As a reminder, games that use the Open Graph can also setup a stand-alone =
app section by configuring collections and encouraging players to add it =
to their timeline.

April 2013 breaking changes

As announced in January, the following changes can be enabled/disabled =
using the "April 2013 Breaking Changes" migration until April 3rd when =
they will go into effect permanently for everyone:


  Removing ability to POST to USER_ID/questions=20
  As it's no longer possible for users to create questions, we will remove =
this functionality from the Graph API. POSTs to USER_ID/questions will =
fail.

New ways to reach the right people with mobile app install ads, 28 Maret =

Since we launched mobile app install ads six months ago, we have added =
several new features to improve the product for users and developers.  =
Today we are excited to announce two new features that will make it easier =
for developers to create these ads and reach the right people.

Enhanced device targeting

With these new capabilities, you can reach 1) specific versions of Android =
and iOS mobile operating systems and 2) devices on Wi-Fi only connections. =
 For example, now you can reach Jelly Bean 4.2 or iOS 5.0 and greater with =
a different message based on what is most relevant to the people using =
those devices.  You can also target devices using a Wi-Fi connection.  =
This is helpful if, for example, you are interested in connecting with =
iPad users that only have Wi-Fi access or prefer using Wi-Fi for data =
usage.

Easier ways to create ads

You can now create and buy mobile app install ads through Facebook's Ads =
Create Tool, which has been used by hundreds of thousands of advertisers. =
Our Ads Create Tool can manage large volume campaigns and will give =
developers access to all of our other ads products, in addition to mobile =
app install ads.  Our new updates to device and Wi-Fi targeting are also =
available through the Ads Create Tool.  Learn how to get started with our =
Ads Create Tool.



Over the past few months we've seen increasing success with mobile app =
install ads from apps across a variety of verticals such as retail, =
e-commerce, gaming, and financial services.  Many of these developers are =
using these ads to accelerate the organic distribution they already get =
through building with Facebook.



For example:


Poshmark, a retail mobile app, has seen 3x better ROI from mobile app =
install ads compared to other paid channels.
Social Quantum, a Russian based international game developer, became the =
#5 grossing app in the US within less than 1 month after running mobile =
app install ads as their primary method of acquiring new users.
Nanigans, a preferred marketing developer, generated 92% ROI in less than =
two weeks for a mobile gaming client by bidding and optimizing for ROI.
O2, a UK communications company, used mobile app install ads to catapult =
its new app O2 Tracks to #6 in the App Store just days after launching.  =
O2 reached an audience of over 9 million people during its three-day =
marketing sprint on Facebook.


In addition to enhancements to the product, we've developed best practices =
specific to mobile app install ads to help improve ad performance and help =
you create the best user experience possible.  We will be holding a LIVE =

Local Currency Payments Preview for Game Developers, 26 Maret pukul 0:00

As we announced in June 2012, we are moving from Facebook Credits to local =
currency pricing. Local currency payments simplifies the purchase =
experience for users, improves the performance of the payments flow, and =
makes it easier for developers to price virtual goods for a global =
audience.

We are migrating all game developers on Facebook.com in Q3 2013 and want =
to provide ample time for you to review the new documentation before we =
launch local currency payments. After launch, developers will have a =
minimum of 90 days to implement the updated payments infrastructure to =
continue accepting payments. In the coming weeks, we will provide further =
updates on when developers can begin integration.

Why we're making the change

When Facebook Credits launched in 2011, developers needed to price virtual =
goods in $0.10 USD increments, which did not provide the pricing =
flexibility that developers wanted. For some game developers, credits also =
introduced a secondary currency on top of an in-game currency. With local =
currency payments, developers set prices based on a person=E2=80=99s =
preferred currency like Euros or Japanese Yen for a more seamless =
purchase.



Faster performance and flexible international pricing

We are simplifying the purchase experience for users, and also making the =
transaction process faster for developers. The updated Facebook Payments =
requires fewer callbacks to complete transactions and improves caching for =
a quicker payments flow for users. Plarium, a Tel Aviv-based games =
developer, saw promising results from early testing with local currency =
payments.

Local currency payments also provide more flexibility and control for =
international pricing of in-game goods and virtual currencies. Developers =
can now price directly in international currencies without the $0.10 USD =
restrictions, thus making it easier to set consistent prices for non-US =
users.

For example, a developer can now choose to price 1500 =E2=80=9Cpirate =
rubies=E2=80=9D for $9.99 USD or 1600 =E2=80=9Cpirate rubies=E2=80=9D for =
$7.99 EUR for roughly the same value.



Using Facebook Credits, the developer would have had to price 1500 =
=E2=80=9Cpirate rubies=E2=80=9D for $9.90 USD or =E2=82=AC7.72 EUR. =
International pricing often changed on a daily basis due to market =
fluctuations.



What developers need to do

Developers should start reviewing the local currency payments =
infrastructure today to prepare for the breaking change later this year.

Developers who price in multiple international currencies should plan well =
in advance for integration and testing. If you currently use Facebook =
Credits as your in-game currency and you wish to continue to offer a =
virtual currency to users, you will need to develop your own and plan =
ahead.

<p>When Facebook Credits launched in 2011, developers needed to price =
virtual goods in $0.10 USD increments, which did not provide the pricing =
flexibility that developers wanted. For some game developers, credits also =
introduced a secondary currency on top of an in-game currency. With local =
currency payments, developers set prices based on a person=E2=80=99s =
preferred currency like Euros or Japanese Yen for a more seamless =
purchase.</p>

Payments requires fewer callbacks to complete transactions and improves =
caching for a quicker payments flow for users. Plarium, a Tel Aviv-based =
games developer, saw promising results from early testing with local =
currency payments.</p>

<p>Local currency payments also provide more flexibility and control for =
international pricing of in-game goods and virtual currencies. Developers =
can now price directly in international currencies without the $0.10 USD =
restrictions, thus making it easier to set consistent prices for non-US =
users.</p>

<p>For example, a developer can now choose to price 1500 =E2=80=9Cpirate =
rubies=E2=80=9D for $9.99 USD or 1600 =E2=80=9Cpirate rubies=E2=80=9D for =
$7.99 EUR for roughly the same value.</p>
